What Are You Waiting For... Smoke Him....

My favorite part of a turkey....Bronze tips...

Rory with a good sense of humor...

It was an awesome opening day for turkey season. We went to our first spot in the morning and set up shop. With in about 15 minutes the birds were gobbling pretty hard and thought for sure that we would have a great chance early on. We had one bird come in pretty hot, but skirted off for a hen he must have had lined up. Not much more action after that bird early in the morning. Saw a deer and decided to move around 9:30am. We got in the truck and moved to another location that Jim thought would bring us some luck. After setting up the decoy spread and getting into position, Jim called and got an answer instantly. I thought for sure that this bird was going to come flying down to the decoys in an instant. Instead, this bird went silent and completely circled behind us. Jim and I both heard him as he approached towards Rory. He got about 15 yards away when Rory smoked him. It wasn't a clear shot through the brush, however he connected with a solid blow to the turkey. All in all, I had a great experience on my first turkey hunt. I was really impressed how Jim was able to work the birds and calling the birds in for Rory and I. Can't wait to get a chance to go again soon...
