Great Video of Kids 1st Fish....

I saw this video posted on Doug Bear's Facebook page and I found it to be an enjoyable video. Great view to see the enjoyment that a kid had for his first fish.

Thanksgiving Hunt

Jimmy and I met up for the second year in a row for our thanksgiving pheasant hunt. This time we met up with Chris Pegg and his dog, Scout. Scout is Zoie's dad from the litter almost two years ago. Solid day in the field. As a group, we got two ring necks. I didn't have a any luck or I was just a bad shot by missing two birds this morning.

The last photo is of Zoie and I riding up to the in laws for an early dinner.

Happy Holidays.

High and Muddy...

Got a call from Jim (holding nice Brown) late Saturday night with an offer to head to Erie. I made a few calls and my awesome Boss let me take the day off. When we arrived it was very obvious they had received rain. The flow was at least tripled from what I seen Tuesday. So we did what we could and all in all it turned out to be a great day. Here are a couple of photos from this past Sunday (the one fish is a beast, didn't measure or weigh. I would have loved to know how big!)

Tarpon...

This picture was just sent to me via text. It is my directors wife (Steph) showing off with a nice Tarpon off the coast of Florida. They are down there the next few days chasing the annual mullet run. They are both hardcore fishing enthusiast, especially salt water. Hopefully I receive a few more photos to share...

Heading West.....

Been bouncing are from Chicago and now sitting in Denver waiting for my flight to Bozeman, MT. I realized that I am not out east anymore once I saw the "Tornado Shelter" signs at Denver airport. Yesterday, I finally tied up some spruce moths for the trip. Fairly easy tie on a #10 dry fly hook.

I plan on posting photos each night when I get off the river...

Can't wait....

"The Second Coming...."

Just got an email the other day from Scott at Orvis about the news of the the new Helios 2 fly rod. Mike, Garrett, and I had a chance to cast a 5wt & 8wt at the rendezvous. It was dubbed "The Second Coming...." when it was in production. So here is the trailer for the new line of rods Orvis will  be producing. There will be four rod models available in November and the rest of the line will be ready in January. Enjoy...

Video...

Slowly learning more about my GoPro. Here a short clip from spring creek...

Spring Creek....

Sat on the deck last week during the heat wave and tied some hoppers for Yellowstone. I found a simple tie for these on Hopper Juan's blog. His ties are easy to follow as well as very effective. I have used them on some of the past guided trips since the terrestrial fishing has been solid. The fish seem to like them alot.

Mike and I headed to Spring Creek on Wednesday morning. I tied up about a 16 Tricos in sizes #22 and #26. It was a hot day for sure with alot of storms in the forecast. We were able to avoid the storms, but the tricos were not present. Ants, beetles, scuds, and a few midge patterns produced well. I also did really well on a #16 Ray Charles pattern tied in a Watery Olive color. Below is a small brown in the am caught on an Ant. Mike caught some big ones early on as well. Mike and I did rather well on the water. We fished most of the day and landed 40 + fish. We didn't stay long since there were no olives during the day and no possibility of a spinner fall.

For a few months now, we have been waiting to discuss the Helios 2 or "The Second Coming...." as we knew it during testing. Had a chance to cast a 5 wt as well as an 8 wt in Vermont. What a smooth action and  handles fish well. The new line of Helios 2 will hit the market in November. I will for sure have one of these.

Past Week....

After grabbing dinner with Mike at the Caddyshack at Nemacolin, which has great BBQ, I saw this giant black bear on the move on the drive home from dinner. We estimated him to be in or around the 400lbs range. It is mating season, so they have been on the move alot lately. I was just very pleased to see this big bruin. This is the second bear that I have encountered during the summer. The first was during a fishing trip on Meadow Run. The bear was young and only looked to be about 125-150 lbs. I had a good look at him only being 25 yards away when crossing the stream.

Thought this was a cool view of Zoie riding in the back with her head out the window. She was also Orvis's dog of the day about two weeks ago. Here is the Link to the story....

Been tying a bit for some warm water species. Lynn from Woodlands World suggested a pattern for some smallies. If you ever get a chance to stop in the store, be sure to pick his brain about fly tying.  Well, back to tying some hoppers for Yellowstone in about a month.
